Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
