Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
