Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
