Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
