Right Before you Tilt

Ah, the poker tilt. If a poker gambler states never to have looked down the shadow of an upcoming tilt – they’re either lying or they haven’t been competing for a long time. This does not indicate of course that everyone has gone on tilt in the past, a handful of players have wonderful control and carry their losses as a defeat and keep it at that. To be a strong poker player, it is absolutely important to appraise your wins and your losses in a similar way – with little emotion. You compete in the game the same way you did following a difficult loss as you would after winning a huge hand. Most of the poker masters are not tempted by tilting following a bad beat as they are incredibly seasoned and you really should be to.

You need to understand that you will not win each and every hand you are in, regardless if you are the front runner. Hands that frequently cause players to go on tilt are hands you were the leading choice or at least believed you were until you were hit and you lost a big portion of your bankroll. Bad defeats are bound to develop. Accept that idea right now, I will say it again – if your brother plays cards, if your parents enjoy cards, if your grandma plays cards – We all have poor beats sometime. It’s an unavoidable outcome of playing Hold’em, or really any kind of poker.

Seeing as we are assumingly (most of us) in the game for a single purpose – to earn a profit, it would make sense that we would play accordingly to maximize our profit potential. Now let’s say you are up one hundred dollars off of a 100 dollars deposit, and you take a big blow in a NL game and your bankroll is down to one hundred and twenty dollars. You have lost eighty dollars in a round where you should have picked up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and had a ten to one advantage. And that amateur! He sucked you out on the river? – Well stop right here. This is a quintessential opportunity for a brand-new gambler to start tilting. They basically blew too much $$$$ on one hand that they should have won and they’re aggravated
