Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he loved gambling on numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while playing his father. The actual improvement in his game began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would regularly play against one another. Howard was able to access some of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the best women players the poker world ever. Howard headed to Sin City in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
