Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
