I have been playing poker now for about five years, I have wagered cards my entire life beginning with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so beautifully called, card on head game. I used to always win, whatever casino game we were betting and even though I liked to call it skill, it was incredibly hard to warrant considering the randomness of the games we were betting, so I was pleased to accept I was having a long run of good fortune.
Then came Poker, or additional importantly Hold’em Poker, made popular by a bunch of Texas card players in the 1960’s and since developed into one of the biggest card phenomena ever seen. Poker is absolutely the new black, it’s uber awesome with numerous of the world’s leading super stars racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick flick through the TV channels these days and you are able to not escape from poker, and of course there is the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each individual gambler.
So with all of this fresh found recognition, with so many Tv programmes devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves loaded up with quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are individuals going to learn that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I really should not receive so worked up about this, after all the more men and women who struggle with the subtle techniques and strategies needed for succeeding consistently at Hold’em, the better it truly is for everyone else, right? I mean, if they cannot be bothered to look at all of the obtainable facts about why location is so critical, why should we bother? We must just be glad there is an additional fish at the table!
It is true, we need to not encourage laziness with advice and assist. However, I liken this to a friendly casino game of football. Granted the levels are not so great, but when you observe a player having difficulties, you support them, provide them some advice, ultimately showing them a method to enjoy, really like and be thankful for the casino game as much as you. I am askin all home gamblers to do the same thing with their poker friends who haven’t quite got a handle on the subtleties of betting position. Support them to grow their respect for the casino game. Obviously, don’t attempt to try this one in your neighborhood gambling house, the sharks won’t appreciate you instructing their lunch how to swim!
