Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players around the world. While participating in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
